Leavers, Pulleys, and Gears, Oh My! Simple machines have been used for centuries! Explore different artifacts and learn about the simple machines the Good family used over one hundred years ago. Discover the science behind a Gee- Hee Whimmy Diddle toy and create a machine by using body movements only.

Description:

This program is designed to introduce students to simple machines, particularly pulley and gear systems, with a focus on how these systems were utilized in everyday objects of early settler life. Students will discover what simple machines were used by the early settlers, and how they assisted work by investigating some real artifacts. Teachers can choose for students to make a traditional wooden toy powered by movement or a creative session were students make a simple machine out of everyday materials.
