Day with the Attawandaron

“Day with the Attiuindaron” is a Brant Historical Society program event to learn about the indigenous people who lived in this part of southern Ontario at the time of European contact.
The day’s activities will begin at 10 AM at Five Oaks Retreat near Paris with a walk to identify medicinal and edible plants with the trek ending at a 13th Century Attiuindaron village site with insights being shared. Lunch will be in the dining hall with a menu that will include a couple of optional items from the Attiuindaron diet. The afternoon will begin with a demonstration of flint-knapping which is making an arrow-point or spear-head by chipping and flaking stone. The day will conclude with a demonstration of making rope/cord by using locally grown plant fibres. The day is expected wrap about 3:30 PM.
This event is being offered by Grand River Rafting Co. and is priced at $45 per BHS Member and $55 per Non-Member with a participant maximum of 50 people. Registration is through the downtown museum (519-752-2483), and spaces are expected to fill quickly. Registrations will close when we reach the maximum or Friday, September 14th (to ensure catering).
Carpooling can be arranged for those in need.
